Walker Invites Area Veterans to Veterans’ Issues Town Hall

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. – State Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, is inviting area veterans to his upcoming town hall on veterans’ issues on Jan. 17 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the American Legion Post 208, located at 121 N. Douglas Ave. in Arlington Heights.

“Our veterans and servicemen and women have pledged a great deal to our country, state and local communities, and it’s important we do everything we can to repay that debt,” Walker said. “While I’m happy to say we did good work this past session helping our veterans, there’s always more work to do. I’m hosting this town hall to hear from our area veterans about what more we can do at the state level.”

An Army veteran himself, Walker has fought for better protections and benefits for Illinois active duty and retired servicemen and women. He co-sponsored and passed Senate Bill 1468, extending veteran and military personnel discounts to their dependents. Walker also co-sponsored House Bill 34 that, if passed, would extend a veteran’s homestead exemption on property taxes to their surviving spouse. To help answer questions and gain feedback, a local service officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will also be in attendance.

“Veterans’ issues are as diverse as our veteran community, making it vital to hear from many different perspectives,” Walker said. “I highly encourage our local veteran community to join me for this important discussion. If anyone cannot attend but would like to share their thoughts or concerns, they can always share that information with my local office. My office can also help with state services whether they be with the IDVA, Medicare and Medicaid, disability or employment issues.”

For more information on this town hall or to share your ideas or concerns, residents can contact Walker’s full-time constituent at 847-749-1137 or by email at Contact@StateRepWalker53.com.
