Walker Begins New Term, Emphasizes Hard Work Ahead to Put Illinois Back on Track

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – State Rep. Mark Walker, D-Arlington Heights, issued the following statement Wednesday after being sworn in for a new term:

“Every resident in our community has had to make personal sacrifices during this pandemic, and I am incredibly grateful for the selfless work delivered every day by health care staff, teachers and frontline workers who have shown incredible resiliency. As we begin a new legislative session in Springfield, it’s our job to honor that work and ensure we have their back.

“My focus is on delivering needed relief for small business owners and ensuring every resident in our community has access to the health care they deserve. We cannot wait to expect further relief from the federal government, we must take action and have accountability on the state level to help families deal with this pandemic.

“Additionally, we have to address systemic racism and its root economic and societal causes. I look forward to working with my colleagues in the Black Caucus and other advocacy groups to deliver positive change long overdue.

“There is no question there will be challenges and difficult decisions in the days ahead, but I am confident we can work in a bipartisan manner to meet these issues head on. I am honored for the opportunity to serve.”
